Today, I gleefully bought books with abandon (well, I stayed mostly within my allotted dollar amount) with the Amazon.com gift card my sister and her family sent me a couple of weeks ago for my birthday. Actually, I confess I went WAY over my allotted amount because I forgot about shipping charges. Since I was buying used books, I didn't qualify for the free Super-Saver Shipping, which is for Amazon-direct purchases only.
Anyway, here's what I got:
- Hamlet's Dresser: A Memoir, by Bob Smith. (Thanks for the recommendation, Jeanne!)
- Thrush Green, Miss Clare Remembers, and Emily Davis, all by Miss Read. I love the Miss Read novels! I've reviewed three of them here on my blog.
- My Name is Asher Lev, by Chaim Potok, and Fair and Tender Ladies, by Lee Smith. Both of these are recommended in Gladys Hunt's excellent book on reading, Honey for a Woman's Heart.
- The Remains of the Day, by Kazuo Ishiguro. I love the movie and am looking forward to reading the book.
What books are you reading? Post a comment and tell me about it!
I just started re-reading Birthing From Within in preparation for my next birth. I'm having a good time with it so far! Plus, I'm also reading The Federalist Papers, trying to educate myself a bit. I could use a good novel, but those never last long, when I can find a good one!
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to finish the Strong Willed Child by James Dobson for 2 months now. I am also reading Loving Mr. Darcy, a continuation of Pride and Prejudice.
ReplyDeleteLove Kazuo Ishiguro's books! Loved Asher Lev as well.
ReplyDeleteOne day I'm going to sit in your kitchen table and drink tea with you girl...
